Message from the Principal

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

(Peace and Blessings Be Upon You)

Greetings and welcome! Assalamu Alaikum
It is with great pleasure that I introduce Arkana College to you.

The mission of our school is to provide a high quality academic and religious education in a dynamic environment with a rich variety of extra curricular activities, thus enabling students to succeed as life long learners who are constructive members of modern Australian society and at the same  proud of their Islamic heritage and identity .

In order to achieve the school’s mission we provide our students with various forms of educational opportunities in an inclusive environment where we continue to instill and uphold the values and principles of  modern Australia, values which also form part of the Islamic faith.

We aim to set high standards at the school in terms of the behaviour of our students, work habits, and attitude. We encourage them to take more challenges in their studies and bear more responsibilities to enhance their academic performance whilst we assist them in developing these skills.

Arkana College strives to facilitate a happy environment for learning and teaching for its students and teachers that fosters a solid understanding, respect and appreciation of diverse cultural backgrounds. The students will share with our dedicated teaching staff a unique and rewarding educational, spiritual and social experience. We have established a strong partnership between school, home and community and this partnership has worked extremely well in educating the children.

We hope that the students will make the most of these opportunities by performing to the best of their abilities and accept the challenge to keep on improving their academic performance so they become independent, self sufficient individuals who will succeed and contribute positively and responsibly.

Modern classes and highly qualified teachers give students every chance to achieve their personal best. We are doing everything possible to prepare our students academically and intellectually for their future lives. All mainstream teaching programs are strictly in accordance to guidelines set by the Board of Studies NSW.

At Arkana College we want our students to develop into emotionally mature and socially responsible human beings. We engage students in extra curricular activities that allow them to mix with students from other schools and to be creative in different areas including the arts, choir, drama, public speaking and sport. Various competitions throughout the year offer students opportunities to have their achievements recognized.

The school also has an extensive excursion program so that students are more than familiar with the society around them and an annual camp also forms a part of the school experience.

We also believe that physical activities are important to support a healthy intellectual development. Our students have regular Physical Education lessons and participate in sports competitions with other schools. Students also participate in House sport and a number of sporting carnivals.

Spiritual development is essential to complete the learning process of not only the child but any person in general. We teach students Arabic, Quran and Islamic Studies in order to facilitate this spiritual development. Receiving this Islamic education will prepare students for all events in their lives because they can find the answers to all their questions in the Quran and teachings (Hadith) of the Prophet Mohammed pbuh.

In Quran students learn to recite and memorise various passages and then study the meanings of those passages so that they gain a better understanding of the Islamic faith. Islamic Studies emphasises the life and traditions of the Prophet Mohammed pbuh. In this subject students learn about the Hadith (teachings of the Prophet  pbuh), Sunnah (lifestyle of the Prophet pbuh), Tarbiya (manners/ettiqutes) and Islamic culture (history/geography/significant events). Arabic caters for different levels and aims to facilitate an understanding of the Arabic language (including reading/writing and grammar), the language of the Holy Quran.

Students at Arkana College are valued as individuals who have a right to academic, emotional, social, physical and spiritual nourishment.

I hope you will enjoy browsing our website.

Kind regards
Wassalam
