Academic Policy
Arkana College follows the guide lines set down by the Board of Studies NSW, from Kindergarten to grade 6. Arkana College actively promotes student centred inquiry based learning and incorporates the Blooms Taxonomy in all the KLA’s to promote understanding and reflection of what is learnt in class.
We take pride in our strong academic reputation as reflected in our excellent results in the 2008 NAPLAN tests. This page allows us to explain the school curriculum and the Islamic Studies we offer.
The curriculum places emphases on the 7 key learning areas of:
- English.
- Mathematics.
- Science and Technology (includes ICT).
- Human Society and its Environment.
- Creative and Practical Arts.
- Health, Physical Education, and Personal Development.
- LOTE (Language Other Than English) - Arabic
Islamic instruction is offered in:
- Islamic Studies.
- Qur’aan Studies.
- Arabic Language.
The school also employs a specialist support teacher for three days a week who provides assistance to those students experiencing difficulty with literacy/numeracy and for those who require remedial assistance (ESL).
Arkana College prides itself in keeping up to date with new curriculum additions to the seven key learning areas. We are dedicated to teaching a child as much as possible during each class. Our classrooms are an open and friendly setting that allow students to contribute. In 2008 the school embarked on a program to introduce new computers and audio/visual equipment into the classroom including electronic whiteboards. This will ensure that our students are well positioned to be part of the Rudd governments so called digital revolution.
