Educational;
The School philosophy is generally that children should strive for excellence and equity. We aim to empower students with the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve their full potential.
The Arkana College vision is to have graduates who are well prepared and self motivated to participate effectively as responsible citizens of the local and wider community while maintaining both strong Islamic and broader Australian values.
The College will through its curriculum promote Islamic values and beliefs, within an excellent academic foundation that encourages students to advance as individuals and live harmoniously within the wider community.
Arkana College aims to develop a curriculum that caters for the needs of all students. A school environment will be maintained where every student has the opportunity to learn to their full potential. This will be achieved by encouraging creativity, innovation and participation in the general curriculum and extra curricular activities.
Respect and tolerance for all people will be promoted regardless of their opinion, race, gender, culture or religious beliefs. Arkana College seeks to optimise working conditions for its employees and provide effective opportunities for their professional development. Arkana College is committed to maintaining a safe environment for its staff, students and authorised visitors.
Multi-cultural:
Arkana College, recognising that we are a nation of immigrants, cherishes the multi-racial, multi-cultural and multi-faith nature and aspirations of our society and enjoins all its students to cultivate a Universalist outlook on life and to constantly seek to broaden their horizons in tolerance, compas¬sion and co-operation with one another.
We seek to prevent discrimination on the grounds of race and religion in the classroom, in the playground, in cultural activi¬ties and in school social life. The only distinction which God recognises is the distinction in piety, and the only criterion which God applies is the criterion of goodness and spiritual excellence.
In the Qur’an, Allah says:
0 mankind, verily we have created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and have made you into nations and tribes, that you may know each other. Verily the most honoured of you in the sight of God is the most righteous. (49:13)
Discipline
An effective discipline policy is operating within the School. It is expected that parents will cooperate with and reinforce this discipline policy.
The Discipline Policy contains information about the rights and responsibilities of children at the proposed School and an explanation of the levels system as it applies to the discipline of the whole school. The level system gives children, teachers and parents a clear view to the discipline system within the school. It lets the children make choices about their behaviour. The misbehaving child can choose to make some positive change or to take the results of bad behaviour. This also encourages well behaved children to keep on behaving well. The main ideas of this system is that behaviour which is not allowed should not disturb the education of other children. Parents will find this policy useful as it gives information to help them talk about behaviour problems with their children. Students must develop self discipline and be responsible for their own behaviour. We trust that this policy will bring us the good results we are working for.
Community
The community boasts a large multi cultural environment with many cultural organisations assisting the social and religious components of each group. Small businesses have been cooperative with school activities.
Parents Council
All parents are welcome to join. Parents meet every month to discuss various issues concerning the school. For further information please contact school.
The Parents’ Council was established in 1990. Parents are encouraged and welcome to participate in the monthly meetings held at the School. Most parents have been involved with fundraising for the school either by contributing to cake days and speciality food days, donating items for auction at the general dinner of assisting at fund raising days. A School Canteen operates at the school – through the support of the parent volunteers and staff members.
School Board
A separate board oversees all aspects of school procedures lending advice on organisation and events and being active in financial and development decisions.
Uniform
As a private School a high profile needs to be held. Therefore each student is expected to wear full School uniform. Uniforms are available through the School.
